The Richmond Music Trust recently hosted its Firebird project at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, which saw 360 primary school pupils from 12 schools perform dance and music routines.
Together with Hounslow Music Service, The Royal Ballet School, the Philharmonia Orchestra and Boundless Dance Company, the event provided children with the opportunity to explore the links between dance and music, and to work with professional dancers and musicians.
The event saw original dances inspired by Stravinsky’s Firebird ballet, an orchestra playing music from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker ballet and a finale based on the Berceuse and Finale from Firebird featuring 360 dancers and over 200 players.
The Richmond Music Trust provides instrumental tuition and works with local schools in an initiative to give all KS2 children the chance to play an instrument. The Firebird project follows on from the Big Racket music event which was also hosted at the University last year.
