On Wednesday 4th June, St Mary’s University, Twickenham welcomed 850 primary school students to take part in the annual Richmond Borough Sports Day. The annual event saw pupils from over 40 schools in the Richmond Borough compete against one another in friendly team and individual events, including sprint and relay. Starting from 7.30am and finishing at 5pm, the event gave local pupils the opportunity to access St Mary’s £8.5m state-of-the-art Sports Centre. A number of former and current children from our SIMMSport programme, which delivers weekly coaching sessions and holiday camps for five to 16 year olds, had participated in the day. St Mary’s Director for Sport Andrew Reid-Smith commented, “The Richmond Borough Sports Day is an event that we have continued to run at St Mary’s over the last six years. The children are very enthusiastic and really enjoy using the same track as our Olympic athletes."
