St Mary’s Drama Society to Raise Funds for Charity

The Drama Society at St Mary’s University, Twickenham are helping to raise funds for the National AIDS Trust (NAT) by donating half of ticket proceeds of their next production to the charity. From Monday 12th to Thursday 15th May, the group will perform Rent: The Musical in St Mary’s Students’ Union hall. Rent tells the story of one year in the life of friends in early 1990s New York City as they battle against everyday trials such as relationships and personal beliefs whilst living with AIDS. The Drama Society at St Mary’s consists of students from a variety of programmes at the University with an interest in performing. Past productions include Dick Whittington and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, though it is the first time they will be performing a musical. Treasurer and Musical Director for St Mary's Drama Society Declan O’Driscoll said, “Following our previous success with Dick Whittington earlier this year, we are very excited about this project as it allows us to branch out and do something that has never been done here before while expanding our experience and knowledge, which is what university is all about. “This musical represents, to an extent, university life and something that almost anyone can relate to and become part of through its messages of gender, sexuality, poverty and creativity. We are happy to finally be able to give something back and achieve something through our charity donation.” Tickets for Rent are £5 plus booking fee, and can be purchased from the Drama Society box office website.
