St Mary's MA Irish Studies Welcomes Guest Speaker for Postgraduate Open Evening

Neil Cobbett will deliver a guest talk at St Mary’s University, Twickenham for the Postgraduate Open Evening on Wednesday 30th April.

The Centre for Irish Studies (CIS) at St Mary’s University, Twickenham is to welcome guest speaker Neil Cobbett as part of the MA Irish Studies presentation at the Postgraduate Open Evening on Wednesday 30th April. Neil, who is a Reader Adviser in Modern Irish Records at the National Archives, will present The Struggle for Irish Independence - Sources at the National Archives, Kew. During the talk he will discuss British Government Irish Conferences, Dublin Castle papers, Royal Irish Constabulary records, 1912-14 Home Rule Bill records, Irish recruitment to British Army and more sources; all of which are available to access at the National Archives in Kew just a few miles away from the University, meaning that students are able to take advantage of the resources on offer. Neil’s talk forms part of St Mary’s Postgraduate Open Evening, where anyone considering postgraduate study will be able to find out more about the MA Irish Studies and speak to academics on the course. Programme Director Dr Ivan Gibbons said, “This is an excellent opportunity for students considering the MA Irish Studies to learn about the wealth of research sources that are located near to the University.” The free MA Irish Studies presentation will take place in Room D121 at St Mary’s Strawberry Hill campus from 6-9pm, with Neil speaking at 7pm.
