St Mary’s Alumni Invited to Film Screening

St Mary’s University College, Twickenham will screen The Usual Suspects, starring alumnus Pete Postlethwaite, for an alumni night on Wednesday 29th January.

St Mary’s University College, Twickenham are inviting alumni to dinner and a film screening of The Usual Suspects, starring the late actor and alumnus Pete Postlethwaite, on Wednesday 29th January. The event will be an opportunity for former students to reunite and catch up with one another while enjoying a meal in the Waldegrave Drawing Room. After the dinner reception, guests will then watch the film in the recently opened Pete Postlethwaite Picture House. The cinema screen opened at St Mary’s Strawberry Hill campus in February 2013 and is named after the actor who graduated from the University College in 1968 and was made an Honorary Fellow in 1998. The facility has enhanced student learning and is an additional resource for local organisations such as The Richmond Film Society, who now hold its fortnightly film screenings on campus. Alumni Relations Manager Sarah Hood said, “The Pete Postlethwaite Picture House is a fantastic facility for the University College and provides a great resource for our calendar of alumni events. Last year’s event was very well attended and enjoyed by all, and it was fascinating meeting so many alumni from different generations and hearing their stories. We hope that this year’s screening will be equally enjoyed by our alumni.” The film follows a survivor of a destroyed ship, who unravels the complex tale of how he and four other criminals found themselves on the boat and the incident which resulted in four of them being dead. Pete stars as a lawyer named Kobayashi. It will be shown at 7.45pm, after dinner is served in the Waldegrave Drawing Room from 6pm. Tickets are £13 per person, including dinner and film screening, and can be booked online or by contacting the Alumni Office at alumni@stmarys.ac.uk. All proceeds will go towards the Alumni Hardship Fund which supports students in need.
