Students Get Set for Success at St Mary’s

St Mary’s University College, Twickenham hosts a ‘Get Set for Success’ programme for students starting at the University College this September

Moving away to university is often a very daunting prospect for students, but new undergraduates at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham have been able to get a head start with its ‘Get Set for Success’ programme. Launched last year by St Mary’s Centre for Workplace Learning and UK Recruitment teams, Get Set for Success is designed as a way to offer additional support and information to those attending university for the first time. The two-day programme of events gave participants the opportunity to meet fellow students and staff, ask any burning questions, take part in activities and challenges, as well as finding out exactly what life is like on campus. Workshops were also held during the course of the event on a range of topics including becoming independent learners, making the transition to university, and how university life can set them onto a successful career path. There was also a social evening for everyone to get to know each other. St Mary’s Director of Workplace Learning Liz Coombs said, “Transition to university can be a daunting time and it was lovely to see the growth in confidence of those that attended – they reported having made friends, gained an insight into what St Mary’s can offer them, and motivation to begin studying and make a success of their university life.”
