Communication and Support

Recommendation

 Rationale

 Silver standard:

Immediate messages to your students:

Use the Quickmail function within Moodle to send messages to your students (sent directly from Moodle to a student's Outlook email account).

Announcements and Internal Moodle messaging are also available, but students can change the time they receive and digest these communications.

Moodle Quickmail student lists are automatically updated (if any class changes are made) and this saves time populating recipient fields.

You can also email individuals or groups that have been set up.

 Silver standard:

 Ready-to-go guidance:

Use the St. Mary's module template to give your students access to the latest guidance.

If you've recently updated your module with a module template, a Section insert is available with the latest guidance.

Staff and students can also search for support on the Hub online.

Guidance content includes video tutorials on how to use Moodle, Zoom, Leganto resource lists, and Primo. There is also clear guidance for students submitting work using Turnitin.

 Silver standard:

Online discussion:

Set up a forum to enable students to engage with one another.

 Silver standard:

Vevox polls to support assessment for learning:

Set up an asynchronous Vevox poll prior to a lecture to assess student learning.

Repeat the same survey at the end of a live session to measure progress.

This embeds assessment for learning in teaching practice and provides students a stronger sense of their own progress.

 Gold standard:

 Video reflections:

Use Flip to set up informal video reflections and discussions.

Social learning activities offer students the chance to engage with one another or might facilitate engagement at a later stage.
