The School of Liberal and Creative Arts has over the past couple of years developed important relationships with heritage sites in London.
In June 2023 Liberal Art lecturers delivered a series of public talks at Fulham Palace as part of a research collaboration. Angela Platt and Stewart McCain are now working on an early years project with the curator at Fulham Palace and more talks are planned for early 2024.
In September 2023 the St Mary’s University Book Club was set up by our Public History PhD student, Gill Holmes. The book club meets once a month in the beautiful surroundings of the Waldegrave Suite (part of Strawberry Hill House). The evening event allows those interested in literature to come together to enjoy some refreshments and discuss literary topics in an accessible and friendly environment.
Over the past year Liberal & Creative Arts has worked with organisations such as TERN (the Entrepreneurial Refugee Network), not least on a successful FEAST event in June 2023 which brought food, performance and music together. We have also worked with Richmond Arts Services as part of the Richmond Arts & Ideas Festival and with Orleans Gallery on an event around food sustainability. Students are encouraged to take part in or attend these events as a way of building relationships and networks with the community and local arts organisations.
The School is a thriving centre of heritage, culture, history and literature and is proud of its commitment to promoting the arts.
The School of Liberal and Creative Arts also publishes a weekly newsletter which celebrates the achievements of the staff and students and brings to public attention activities which are happening in the School. If you would like to sign up to the newsletter to find out about events, research seminars, the book club, short courses or any other activity, please contact the Head of School: kim.salmons@stmarys.ac.uk.
