Launch of Equality, Diversity, Inclusion in modern slavery research report

Date: Monday 17th July 2023

Time: 11:45am to 4:00pm

Venue: The Exchange, 75 London Road, Twickenham, TW1 1BE

The UK BME Anti-Slavery Network (BASNET), a project of AFRUCA Safeguarding Children in partnership with the University of Nottingham, the St Mary’s University, Twickenham and the University of Sheffield is pleased to invite you to the launch of our new Research report: Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Publicly Funded Modern Slavery Research in the UK. The research was conducted by Dr Liz Such, Debbie Ariyo, Neena Samota, Dr Habiba Aminu and Naeema Ahmed.

The research project is funded through a responsive call for proposals by the Modern Slavery and Human Rights Policy and Evidence Centre (Modern Slavery PEC), which in turn is funded and supported by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).

This research project is the first Modern Slavery PEC project to be led by an NGO (BASNET at AFRUCA Safeguarding Children) as part of their new funding processes to promote diversity in modern slavery research. This follows BASNET's landmark Action Plan on Race Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in UK Modern Slavery sector, which highlights the gaps in UK modern slavery research.

This research dissemination event will attract key players in UK Modern Slavery research, policymakers, academics, researchers, research funders, experts by experience, community leaders, and NGO practitioners. The research report will be released before the event.

Join us for a presentation on our research methodology and findings and a presentation by our funder the Modern Slavery PEC on why this important research was commissioned. There will be a discussion session with a panel of project contributors, exploring what implementing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in modern slavery research would look like. The event will include a Q&A session with presenters and panelists.

Please note that registration to attend this event is compulsory.

Schedule

Arrival from 11.45am onwards. Lunch will be served from 12pm. The event will officially start at 12.45pm and conclude no later than 4pm.
