Marriage and Civil Partnership is a protected characteristic under the UK Government's Equality Act 2010.
Section 8 of the Equality Act 2010 seeks to protect individuals who are married or are in a civil partnership. Since the ratification of Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013, individuals within Same Sex marriage are now equally protected from discrimination by the Equality Act 2010.
Discrimination of any kind based on marriage or civil partnership is prohibited under Equality Act 2010 and is not tolerated at St Mary's any student or member of staff who has been affected by discrimination, bullying, harassment, violence, or hate crime is encouraged to visit our Report & Support pages for staff and for students for detailed information about their options.
