Altitude training

The EPC training camp in Font Romeu

Altitude training team photo.Annually since 2015 the EPC has bought a group of its athletes to Font Romeu for three to four weeks of altitude training.

High in the Catalan Pyrenees in the southwest of France and close to the Spanish border, Font Romeu is home to the French National Altitude Training Centre.

Set in the heart of a national park and amongst beautiful pine forests, the centre and track are positioned at a height of 1850m above sea level.

What makes the mountain environment and altitude so attractive to training groups is not only the unique location but also the quality of the facilities which include a recently re-laid 400m all-weather running track, a gym, swimming facilities and plenty of trail running routes including at the stunning Lac de Matemale. All of which provide training conditions that support the demands of coaches and athletes aiming towards high performance targets and goals.

Regular visitors in the past have included Paula Radcliffe and EPC Alumnus Sir Mo Farah, both of whom own apartments in Font Romeu. Living and training in Font Romeu provided Mo with the perfect base in preparation for his successful medal winning Olympic campaigns.
