St Mary’s University School of Education is delighted to offer a brand new CPD course for teaching assistants wanting to further enhance their understanding of how to effectively support SEND learners in the classroom.
The course aims to enhance teaching assistants (TAs) and other support staff understanding of how to be effective in the classroom, to support both the learner and teacher. This will include an understanding of different models of special education needs and disability (SEND), the key difficulties that learners presenting with SEND may face in the classroom and strategies to minimise and remove barriers to learning.
TAs will develop an understanding of cognition and learning, the Code of Practice and the collaborative partnerships with families and outside professionals required to support the learner. This course will be led by Sarah Brooks and Dr Clare Martin, experts in SEND provision.
The School of Education offers longstanding excellence in professional learning, which is affirmed by our reputation for education degrees, active research centres, and 'outstanding' delivery of initial teacher education.
