Deborah began her career teaching in secondary schools. Subsequently she moved into outplacement. Further work with HMP Bronzefield alongside working with the homeless, instilled the idea of a Charity. MyBigCareer was launched in 2013, with support from all political parties. The Charity’s objectives are defined as; every child, regardless of their background deserves the best opportunities to follow their dreams and achieve success. Sponsorstars was set up in 2017, sponsoring children in poverty in UK aged 4-18.
In 2021, Deborah launched a new venture, The Careers Office. The social movement Black Lives Matter, and Diversity and Inclusion in companies, has illuminated the need for change. There is a massive hunger to galvanise the corporate world. Students across the UK including Northern Ireland, are introduced to companies to widen their talent pool and give every student the same chance of success.
Deborah regularly advises government departments on Apprenticeships, and more recently the launch of T levels. Educational podcasts and inspiring public speaker here and abroad. Working with young students and adults for 40 years is testament to Deborah’s passion for changing lives.
Throughout her career Deborah has juggled the demands of 6 children, including at one time 5 children under 9 and 5 different schools. She passionately believes that every student should be treated with patience, care and empathy as if they were her own son and daughter and with a promise of conveying the same drive and ambition.
